Chairman of the House Taxation Committee Adam Smith Endorses Derek Schmidt

This is Representative Adam Smith of Weskan, Kansas. I have the privilege of serving my community in the state legislature in Topeka and serving our entire state as Chairman of the House Taxation Committee. My family has been farming in Kansas for six generations.

I’m writing to you to announce my endorsement of Derek Schmidt in the race to be Kansas’s next governor.

You and I know that Kansans thrive when we keep our taxes and spending low. Farmers, ranchers, and small businesses succeed when they’re keeping more of the money they’ve worked hard for. Laura Kelly and her reckless veto of the common-sense tax reform bill passed this Legislative session by Republicans – even with support from some Democrats – clearly shows she doesn’t get it.

Thankfully, we had the votes to override her veto and return money to Kansas taxpayers. But that veto highlights the importance of defeating her in 2022. Derek Schmidt understands our conservative values, and he wouldn’t have hesitated to sign it into law.

I know Derek’s the right choice for Kansas because he’ll work for, not against, our hardworking families. He’s done it his entire career.

We’ve been farming in western Kansas since the mid-1860’s, so it’s especially important to me that we elect a governor who won’t turn their back on our state’s farmers and ranchers.

I know that Derek Schmidt will never leave us behind, and that’s why I’m proud to endorse his campaign.

There is no one better to defeat Laura Kelly and get Kansas back to being the state we know and love.
