Dole, Roberts announce endorsements of AG Derek Schmidt for Kansas Governor
TOPEKA – (July 6, 2021) – Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-KS) and former U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) today announced their endorsements of Derek Schmidt for Governor of Kansas:
Senator Bob Dole said: “Like myself, Attorney General Derek Schmidt has made it his goal to put the needs of Kansans first and to make a positive difference for our state. He’s a strong Republican, and he has what it takes to win and to lead with common sense and decency. I’m proud to stand with my good friend Pat Roberts and endorse Derek Schmidt for Governor.”
Senator Pat Roberts said: “In the 25 years I’ve known Derek Schmidt, I’ve watched and admired his strong and steady leadership. Derek understands rural America and Kansas agriculture. He is an experienced and trusted leader, and is a proven winner. That’s why I’m proud to stand with my friend and mentor, Bob Dole, to support Derek Schmidt’s campaign for Governor.”
Attorney General Derek Schmidt said: “I’m deeply honored to receive endorsements today from Senators Dole and Roberts in this campaign for Governor. Kansans have been blessed with so many years of honorable, effective and distinguished public service from these two Republican icons, and as one who has looked up to them since I was young, I couldn’t be more proud or humbled to earn their faith and support.”
Bob Dole and Pat Roberts represented Kansas in the United States Senate for a combined total of more than 50 years. Before that, they represented the Big First congressional district in western Kansas for a combined total of 24 years. Dole served as the Senate Republican Leader for 11 years and was the Republican nominee for Vice President in 1976 and for President in 1996. Roberts is the only person in U.S. history to serve as chairman of both the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee and the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.
