Release: Iowa Governor Reynolds endorses AG Schmidt for Kansas Governor

TOPEKA – (July 27, 2022) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has endorsed Attorney General Derek Schmidt in the race for Governor of Kansas.

The endorsement was announced today by the Schmidt campaign. Governor Reynolds offered the following statement with the endorsement:

“Kansas currently has a governor who pretends to be moderate but is the only governor in the region who won’t stand up against Joe Biden and the national agenda of the radical left.

“Derek Schmidt will help Kansas join the ranks of commonsense conservative leadership. He listens to Kansas families and focuses on the real needs of real people. And he wants to reduce the tax burden so life becomes more affordable in Kansas, to empower Kansas parents to make sure their children are getting the best education in America, and to stand up for our great country against the damaging Biden agenda.

“Kansas can do so much better than Laura Kelly, who is a loner among midwestern governors. She vetoed 20 tax cuts, funding for mental health, the Parents Bill of Rights and the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act. Laura Kelly is so out of touch she called efforts to secure America’s southern border ‘political games’ and said of the coming Biden recession ‘bring it on.'”

Schmidt responded with the following statement:

“Governor Reynolds is one of the most important voices in our Republican Party today, and I’m honored to have her support. Kansas has the potential to do so much better with commonsense leadership, and I’m excited to work alongside Governor Reynolds to help our Midwest region grow and thrive.”

Reynolds is the fourth current or former governor to endorse Schmidt in the race. Immediately after withdrawing from the primary campaign in late August, former Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer announced his support for Schmidt. Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts endorsed Schmidt in December. Missouri Governor Mike Parson endorsed Schmidt on July 13.

Reynolds is the current Vice Chair of the Republican Governors Association and gave the GOP response to the State of the Union address earlier this year.
