RELEASE: Schmidt, Sawyer embark on ‘Kansas Can Do Better’ Tour for final stretch of governor’s race

Republican ticket will visit nearly 90 Kansas communities between now and Election Day

TOPEKA – (October 27, 2022) – Kansas Attorney General and Republican Nominee for Governor Derek Schmidt and his running mate Katie Sawyer are visiting nearly 90 Kansas communities across the state between October 23 and Election Day as the race for governor comes to a close.

Schmidt, a fifth generation Kansan and native of Independence, will spend much of his time in the closing days of the campaign visiting communities – some large and many rural – across the state that have been left behind during the Kelly administration.

“I’m excited to get out and talk with Kansans throughout our state one more time before Election Day,” Schmidt said.  “Our governor has left many of these communities behind. Katie Sawyer and I care deeply about each and every one and want to make sure they are set up for success for the next generation. I look forward to meeting with Kansans across our great state as this campaign concludes and voters have the opportunity to vote for a positive change in the governor’s office on November 8th. Kansas can do better.”

In the course of his public service, Schmidt has visited every county in Kansas at least eight times – some, many more. After nearly four years as governor, Laura Kelly still has not visited every county even once.

Schmidt has been endorsed by the Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas Fraternal Order of Police, Kansas State Troopers Association, and many other Kansas individuals and organizations. The late-Senator Bob Dole endorsed Schmidt early in the race for governor, saying:

“Like myself, Attorney General Derek Schmidt has made it his goal to put the needs of Kansans first and to make a positive difference for our state. He’s a strong Republican, and he has what it takes to win and to lead with common sense and decency.”
